knitwear, basquiat, and barbara kruger

Went to Central Saint Martin's with Scott my last full day in London (can't believe it's been a few weeks by now), wore this particular creation of his on the trip there. It's a spectacular dress isn't it? Can you believe he's only been doing knitwear for a year, about? UNREAL. This dress was inspired by Basqiuat and other influences, I think he did a good job of making his intentions known. We'd gone to the Tate Modern the day before and the influence was startling. Unfortunately CSM was closed when I went -- I am cursed apparently, every time I try to go to a fashion themed library it never happens -- but the entrance hall was open and the lighting was killer so we snapped a few pictures together. I'm lucky with finding light. The clouds moved on immediately after we took these pictures, so it was great timing after a lot of dawling elsewhere being frustrated that we weren't getting what we wanted out of the day.

I love photography and framing and lighting a lot, it lets me find something very intentional about everywhere I go. We're always walking around doing one thing or the other and when you're on the lookout for a good picture, you see things differently. It's nice to capture an ordinary moment and being able to invest something into it. A nondescript concrete wall can be beautiful too.

I'm horrible at modeling though, definitely fall into the good ol' awkward blogger standby's, so trying to show the back of this dress without looking like I'm drawing on the wall or peeing is too hard for me. Whatever, I'm not signed to Ford, I don't gotta worry bout that stuff.

I will try hard, however, to always be a better creative person though, which means I'm never going to stop experimenting with this here blog for as long as I have it, pushing my ideas and my techniques and exploring collaborations. I do read every comment and every email and every criticism and fanmail even if it's hard to answer them all, and I try to channel them into something even better and more productive for myself because it's just the only way I know how to live fully and happily. I am very young and have been able to do many things already so there is a constant worry of me wondering -- have I peaked already? is this it? -- but I think it's more productive for me to just hustle and try harder forever. The universe is expanding and nothing will be enough, but I think working towards being enough is fun while I have the chance. The meaning of life, as Kruger points out, is that it stops. So basically: *Jesse Pinkman voice* carpe diem, bitches.

stripes and psychedelics

Ta da, a revamp of the blog! I hope you like it. We're still working out the kinks, sorry -- tweet me if you have any huge troubles with it. You'll note I added a Shop FP link up at the top (with faves of the moment) and also sponsorship opportunities. Someone in the last comments thread asked about skype consulting and yes, I'm happy to do that as well, just email me. Ok, back to business:

I have always been a total sucker for stripes -- my all time favorite shirt is just a striped tank top I purchased from Goodwill and have worn so  much it has literally fallen apart at the seams, and then I just sewed -- HAND SEWED -- it back together while I watched Breaking Bad on Netflix. It took several episodes but it was so worth it. This dress spoke to me and this is actually my favorite jacket, it's just made so beautifully and is the softest leather. Paired 'em together et voila. It's very funny to see my outfit posts and how rapidly it seems my style changes, but that's only because I do so few of them that you can't see my style change on a day-to-day basis. Though I'm practically omnipresent on the internet you still only see a sliver of my life, so you don't see me change, you just see the results. That's fine with me. A girl has to have secrets.

I'm obsessed with this dress from Gypsy Warrior -- I want a crop top version and a high waisted skirt of this fabric and cut. This is what it looks like without the jacket. It's definitely one of the most obnoxious high-low pairings I've ever worn, the jacket retailed for four digits and you can pick up the dress for $32. Something about this amuse me so much....postmodern fashion methodologies forever, man.

Outfit details: Similar jackets here, here, and here . Dress c/o Gypsy Warrior, Similar stockings by Kate Spade. Brahmin Tucker c/o, YRU Platforms c/o Gypsy Warrior. Lipstick is a combination of Morgana Cryptoria's Metallic Seafoam. underneath OCC Powerplant. Mai sent me the lip tar. Bonlook Marquise sunglasses.

Also! I have been getting a lot of compliments and questions about some of my new glasses, so I thought I'd do another giveaway to share the love. All you've got to do is sign up for Bonlook's Newsletter (you'll automatically recieve a $10 discount) and then leave a comment on this entry with the name of the style you want. Everything else is optional but will increase your chances by a lot.

basically, pants forever.

I can practically hear my dead grandmother chastising me for slouching. SORRY IT'S JUST FOR #FASHION
I wear pants now. Pants are cool. (Doctor Who reference.) I got these pants in L.A from Marshalls, they're Cynthia Steffe, and they're changing my life. I never really wore pants for years, I could never find ones that fit properly that didn't need to be cuffed. I'm short (5 ft 2) and typically wear 4 inch heels and skirts but I'm switching it up now and embracing my tiny. Flats and pants and short hair and a revolving arsenal of glasses! Change. It's freaking out people more than I'd expect but I find it funny I guess.

The top and sweater are both vintage (and have been on the blog before -- the sweater most notably with my Proenza Schouler dress). Glasses are the La Marquise frames from Bonlook c/o, pants are Cynthia Steffe but these are pretty similar. And the shoes are Cole Haan c/o.

It's pretty crappy out and I have homework to do so I'll talk to you all later! Hope all is well.

why i hate secrets

This is mostly for my own amusement. I can't even tell you how amusing this picture is. Andrew and Kristin probably could, though.

This is Aya. A much better picture of her (god I must hang my head in shame), taken, of course, by the Selby.

I will leave you to your own detective work now.

it's ninety nine cents or less...and up

WARNING: EXTREMELY BORED TEENAGER WITH NO SCRIPT. I got bored after I got home and I found my piggy bank. I didn't edit the video so it is not at it's true "WAT" potential. I kind of lost my marbles in the last 10 seconds so you'd best ignore that.

A better woman than I would not post this video, because of something called dignity and self-preservation. I lack both so it's no problem. In before the definition of prenuptial, I know what it is. >_>

I'm lame and I have nothing in particular to write about today other than I'M TEENVOGUE GIRL OF THE WEEK and I FOUND A NEW THRIFT STORE. Chhhhkayeah.
Look, a TV'r.... man I hate puns.

Anyway, the new thrift is kind of a hellhole and extremely tiny but I don't care, it's new and it's named "G-Ma's Thrift Storeplace" and how can that be wrong. I can imagine so many shady things happening in the back of G-ma's. Like... illegal poker with old ladies (using vintage brooches as coins) and smoking lavender. I'll be visiting it tommorow for a thorough examination and conversation with G-ma herself, because she has a a Jewfro and John Lennon glasses and I seriously cannot resist that.

Also, here are my favorite pictures of the moment. You can click on them to be directed to their flickr.

I really enjoy this person's work in particular.

So those are today's pictures. I have a neverending love for gloomy, it's obvious.

Also, Disney Roller Girl has a great post on NEW trends, check it out. And for the super amazing awesome Amerley, HI! You made my day.

I've been getting a few emails from people wanting to know more about me so to make my life and yours a little bit easier I'll just do a Q&A post: ask and you shall be answered.

Cheers!
