Kimberly Ovitz SS2013

My fashion week this season is really low key -- more concerned with seeing friends and Rookie things* than I am with anything else. But the shows that I have been attending have been wonderful and I am happy to share my experience with you as much as I can. The first show I went to was Kimberly Ovitz -- I love her #lesbianchic (was that snarky cc: style.com? I'm mostly amused) situation, there were some looks I'd love to wear head to toe. It reminded me a lot of my friend Kristin actually, very sexy cool. I am just so INSPIRING with my fashion reviews, hmmm? Regardless of my ineptitude at describing the show verbally, here are some photos. It felt like a really sacred show, minimal music, barefoot, slow walking models. It felt just really fucking cool.

As always, click the photos for better viewing experience

^ This was my favorite look AND my favorite model.

I've seen that rope knitwear idea in every show and presentation I've seen thus far. Trendspotting.

Anyway, now I'm going to go to bed early and snuggle with my new Rookie Yearbook! Speaking of which, I'm going to be reading @ the Rookie Yearbook celebration Sunday, if you're in NYC you should come. The deets are on Rookie and the Rookie tumblr. ♥

18 February 2009

in which i decribe to you how going through the paper shredder was the best thing to happen in my life,

So I was surfin' the net, avoiding my email, thinking about chocolate, eating chocolate, doing my thing, you know, and came across Iris van Herpen. She is perfection. I cannot see anything NOT perfect about her. She is Comme.

Okay, so she's an Amsterdam designer who graduted from design school in 2006 (notice my serious journalism skills, obviously I am very specific and informative). The lookbook pictures here are from her first collection. Her first. They only get better. My favorite kind of design is pure, unadulterated art you can wear. If I could wear an art gallery every day of the week I damn well would.

She's very elaborate in each piece, which makes the fact she only makes 10 pieces per collection forgivable. I'm nervous for her solely because I don't know how she'll make it commercially -- though obviously she's not doing it for the money, or else she'd be pulling a line skirts out of her ass and splattering them with whatever trend of the season.

No, she's very much designing for her own muse and her muse alone. I love it. I want to write a love song to it. I want to court her muse and serenade it at night to sleep, and buy it rings the size of my fist, and buy it a yacht and half the world. I want to stalk it at night at it's window. Yes. Even that.

her latest collection.

She juxtaposes mummified silhouettes with ruffles, studs, anything that fits her whim. Her aesthetic is kind of like a love child of Pugh, TAO, and skeletons, with a healthy dose of barbed ire and rufflery and sometimes even bondage. Iris smudges the line between the macabre and the feminine. It's rough, but it's fragile, and damned if I don't want it all.

(sorry for the quick post, got lots of plans for the blog in the future -- lucky packs return, a contest, and more. xxx)

fashion flipside

My aunty dearest emailed me a flyer for Fashion Flipside, a festival on the Lower East Side. Sounded cool, so I went with Abigail (F MINUS ASSISTANT, WHO FALLS ASLEEP DURING A RUNWAY SHOW?!). We arrived late but did see some pretty nice outfits, got free soda, got into our daily bitch fights with each other, and pet random dogs.

It was no Alexander McQueen HC but then again, it was just a show displaying clothes from boutqies on Orchard, Bleeker & Stanton so it wasn't to be expected. That said, it was still fun to watch for me and I took pictures for you all.

A great deal of the dresses are a bit TOO chocha friendly, if you know what I mean? It's probably because the models are all legs (for which I say I HATE YOU) but yes, I did see a flash of butt and I don't know if I'd pay boutique prices for something that barely covers my ass. I was digging this dress though, it's lacy and frou-frou.

05

This reminded me of Antoine Peters for some unknown reason (love you Antoine, your new collection rocks), and that chick that got eliminated from Project Runway for her anticlimactic dress. I like it, kinda? Ruffles = key to my heart, it's too juvenile for me to fall in love with though. Even ignoring the Lil' Mama pose.

06

I love love love this girl, she such a bombshell. My dad thinks she looks too Disney Princess in this photo, whatever. She has an ass, she has an epic cut, and I could mimic this look in a second with a quick trot to f21.

Cochas beware. This mini dress is very cute, and Mr Hat guy is very appreciative. Too much. Really.

09

Walk walk walk swish swish swish swish.

012

Ooooh Lanvin-y bellows! I loved watching her walk. I dislike the pattern on the material they used (jersey) because it made it look cheap. Then again any nod to Lanvin is on slippery territory for me... the original is just too fierce to touch.

013

Ignore the outfit. LOOK AT HER HAIR. I WANT IT. NOW.

016

Hmmm... is all I can say. I am such a helpful and articulate reviewer, right?

018

Oh hai there, Express months past gradient cocktail dress. How nice of you to show.

020

One of my favorite models, she reminds me of Chictopia. I want the skirt. Color combo = Richard Chai, pleats = "too many ideas in mah head" girl on Project Runway.

Oh, but my favorite look and model. Too fierce, just too fierce.

hooker fabulous

Call me. I'll be in this, waiting. *winks, walks back to corner*

27 June 2008

and then damnit the falafel exploded

Hi guys! A few emailed and commented on how I studded my new shoes, and it's really quite simple! I followed Flying Saucer's DIY but used Gorilla Glue. I used very little, because the glue tends to foam--use wisely! Better to put on less than have to wipe away later on. The shoes are manmade, cheapo material so the glue works fine.

Since summer is here I have more time on my hands (until July 5th, whatever) but there's a sale going on for these shoes and I have studs left over so if anyone would like, I can do it for you! Just drop me an email at letsbeninjas@gmail.com I'll let you know. I'm looking for some already studded shoes as well.

Anyway:

I hung out with Maddy today! (We never made up codenames, gah!) Along with my friend Peter, we limped I mean frolicked in the nonexistent City breeze, ate falafel, and shopped. I have also come to the realization I should never be in charge of directions, because I am semi-retarded at all things important.

Anyway, we walked around East Village and St. Marks and I showed her around my usual haunts, discovered new places. You'll see the pictures of that soon enough. Until then, here are my finds. Again, camerea phone pictures, blah. I think I'm getting the hang of it, my little dit above is pretty fly, no?

I love love love my buys lately, in part because 1) Most of them were gifts and 2) Not one of them was over $10. Am I pro? I am very pro. You could almost consider me awesome. Oh wait, I already am. Teehee.

And omfg (yes i went there) how cute is Tavi with her new haircut? Seriously, total girl fawn/crush/squeal. Best cut ever I do believe.

"Oh I see you thar, envi'n mah do. *preen eyelash bat preen preen*" It's okay to look in the mirror very time you pass by one, it's a total epic haircut. Squish!

Speaking of epic, I dreamed about TAO Comme des Garcons F/W Paris last night. My favorite so far, and I've gone through three pages of collections so far.

After seeing the collection I've been on the hunt for lots and lots of textures and ruffles and general disorder to add to my wardrobe. I enjoy my style as of now but I really think there's some experimentation to be had! Maddy and I were considering buying petticoats/tutu's, and I WILL get one by the end of the upcoming month, mark my words.

I have celebrating to do tommorow (congrats my senior bitches, you're freshman again and have entered the school with the highest amount of STD'S IN THE COUNTRY! HAVE PRIDE!)

Cheers.
