Egg Yourself On

A_FaceDress_3

Boop, here's an outfit post and a video for you. I've been feeling super burned from my hustle so I'm exploring things just because I like them and not because I have to do things. Tayler took this picture real quick before she jet back home for a few weeks. It's so strange how time has flown since graduation in May -- I've since worked with some of my dream magazines and it's only going to get bigger and better. Still doesn't mean it's easy! I've never worked so hard in my life. But I need to take care of myself better. It would be so nice.

In an effort to keep me from dying at my computer I decided to film more Youtube videos again, so here's one of the two I've done recently. I welcome feedback, though since I'm on a PC editing them is losing battle.

Everything in the video is shoppable below, too:

See ya around!

Be Your Own Hero

No outfit post today, just a video I did because I wanted to do a video and someone suggested I do one on self confidence. So here it is! Oh, if you didn't know, I have pink hair at the moment because I'm trying to go blonde enough to go green but it's not working very well. Ah well.

Ok I don't have much else to say hahaha I'm going to go watch Snow White & The Huntsman and deal with my crush on Kristin Stewart luvz ya bye

I am Rutgers Video

A couple of months ago (TIME FLIES MAN) I am Rutgers approached me to do a video piece on me and another fashion blogger who goes to RU. The results are unintentionally hysterical because it just displays how completely different Melanie and I are! Seriously night and day but we both found our places in the community Rutgers provides. Have a watch and laugh hysterically at the contrast with me.

Have a good day my friends.

the state of fashion blogging.

I recorded this a little over a week ago, but you can probably tell by the tenor of my posts that it's been kicking around in my head for awhile. I don't know, it's scary to put this out there -- but I had to. It feels honest.

more pictures: here. here. here. Click on the pictures to see them properly.

I got myself some Comme des Garcons. ♥___♥~~~ If you didn't know, there is a sample sale going on at the Croatian Church on 41st and 11th and  CDG is up to 70% off: all past collections. It was a madhouse! I had some ridic touble buying this dress but I did it and I'm so so so happy with it I could cry. Legit, one of the top three most important things in my life??

Twitter said I should do a haul video so here it is, if you don't subscribe to my youtube channel. It might still be processing by the time this post is put, but oh well.

I am also wearing a Junko Koshino Jacket. Koshino was one of the first Asian designers to ever leave Japan and find commercial success elsewhere, she showed in Paris before Kawakubo and Yohji did I think? They were the first wave of otherness to freshen up the Paris runways. I am very fond of this jacket, if you've been a long time reader you might recall seeing the skirt that accompanies this jacket. I don't wear it very often.

It's weird because I'm really stingy IRL, like, most of my outfits don't cost more than $10, I shop exclusively at vintage and thrift stores, but when it comes to CDG and designers I really love I'll fork over $$$ and not bat an eyelash. It's worth it to me, it is an investment, I cherish my favorite items of clothing like people would cherish their chlidren. When I am sad I put on my favorite thing and it makes me feel better. I don't regret buying this at all, I only regret not having more money to spend on more! This splurge was a long time coming. What's the most memorable thing you've splurged on? Do you regret it?

let's talk about things

Super attractive screencap face, I know. Also, I apologize for the scrappy  lighting, it was the first and only time I filmed in non-natural lighting sooooooo. I was a little nervous at first as you can tell because I don't want to misspeak but bear with me.

I was reluctant to make a video on feminism (so it's not completely about that) because it's kind of a constant learning process -- my view and knowledge of it's history and many branches expands and changes every day, so if I were to try to discuss feminism in one video it'd instantly become dated because my view has changed a little bit. So I'm not going to be talking about feminism as a political theory until I feel more confident in it. Besides, this is a fashion blog first and foremost. Right now, I just wanna know about YOU and what fashion makes YOU feel.

I've already gotten a bunch of wonderful and poignant responses through email and on the youtube page but it is only right to post the video here too. Hopefully after watching this you'd like to leave a comment here discussing your relationship to fashion -- in my next video I'll break it down into more specific questions because the private response was so good -- but ummm yeah. This was primarily directed to my female readers because it deals with makeup and things that are typically feminine but the same questions can be applied to others when you replace makeup with something overtly male. Activities or objects that represent gender ideals like makeup and 'manly' things like sports (since it's male dominated?) do you actively participate in them and would you if you weren't male/female/non-binary/genderqueer? Why, do you suppose?

These are topics I think about all the time, and I've filled up a bunch of journals delving into my relationship with it all but I just wanna see what you guys make of it all. :)

fierce vagina warriors and youtube

long time no see! Here's a video to keep you at bay. Hope your summer is more interesting than mine so far.

14 May 2010

this is a rant about 'girl stuff'

This has been bubbling up for months actually, thinkin about feminism, girl stuff, etc. I've been researching it for like.. the entire year (I seriously have a huge google document that's pages and pages long about it...) but Tavi's post got me motivated enough to post something here.

It is ten minutes long (I cut out repetition to save time, I was just going off the top of my head, no prep) but hopefully ten minutes well spent. Sorry for the strange quality, I don't know crap about compressing. If you guys don't hate videos I suppose I'll do them more often (shorter, obvz) but I just didn't feel like writing it all out so I just recorded free form.

Yup.

happy valentines day darlings

Fashion week has been way insane. A mixed bag, but it's a welcome change from the daily dilly day you know? Gotta jet but I just wanted to wish you all a happy single awareness day. You are my valentines.

Things I am to be reminded of: keep perspective! Not everyone is as lucky. Some people will go places just to be seen by people who also want to be seen, and if you ever find yourself in that kind of place jet the fuck out. It is easy to get caught up in that and never ever let it get to you. Just walk out. Ok? Ok. That being said, you should be as nice as possible doing so.

Okay, back to fashion week. Not too many shows today, 3-6 I think. Then dinner and then back to high school. I like you guys a lot and I hope your day is wonderful.

DRUGS AND DANCING -- CAUGHT ON TAPE

This was originally going to be a test video -- which is why I felt free to be awkward and lame for the first minute -- but a special guest visited me and I figured it was too good not to post. This shit really happened; I only regret that he didn't come into the frame.

Also:

I thought he had left when I took this (hence me looking around to make sure) but he ended up being like around the corner in his cruiser and drove by VERY SLOWLY which is why I cut it short. Hopefully the audio swap works by the time you guys see this. =___=

Happy thanksgiving, readers!

yokoo's asian secret brother happens to be fabulous

This should be Yokoo's new campaign model you know? Just imagine, this dude in a chain necklace. Unstoppable fabulousness, girlfriends. Unstoppable.

P.S If you're too stingy to buy from her (shame on you! her stuff is always perfect) at the very least very least least enter her giveaway. How can you deny free stuff? You can't.

i am a reverse oreo and also, apparently, CLASSY

Two of my favorite things in the world EVER. It's okay if you're offended. My soul died long ago in a faraway place called internet memes.

proof i am a weeaboo

I am such a goddamn otaku, I pretty much cried when I saw G-Dragon in this spread. Ugh I am such a nerd for Big Bang, when I heard them on one of my local cafe's soundtracks I was that obnoxious girl that hums along and dances with strangers.

ANNDDD to solidify my complete loser-status in the eyes of all the non-weeaboos that read this blog, here is my favorite MV of Big Bang for you all. If you mute at the chorus, it is totez tolerable and awesome. If you listen to the whole thing, the awesome cliche yet weird dance inducing rhythmn of it is worth it!

If you're grounded during the summer and hang out with only asian girls who enjoy Final Fantasy THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS. BEWARE!

p.s i am not a tone-deaf korean fanatic all the time. only 98%. don't judge, you know you probably listen to Britney Spears unironically....
