Over the summer, StylelikeU convinced me to partake in their relaunched Second Skin project. My friend Meagan had been in one of the first episodes the previous fashion week season and she was so stressed out about it, I was really tentative at first. But I'm also less anxious than Meagan (I SAY THIS WITH A LOT OF LOVE) so I figured it was worth a shot. The internet has a very limited perception of my style most days, so I figured whatever thrown at me couldn't get me too twisted.
I was pretty much right, but the results are truly comical. I'm kind of spacey and mellow about everything, and Dynasty is super outgoing and gregarious and anxious about the whole thing. I laughed through the entire twenty minutes when I watched it this morning.
Yeah, our style is lil' bit different. Just a little.
Here is the video. Enjoy.
Outfit credits in the first two photos -- our official "meeting" photos -- my plastic jacket and the knitted dress -- are both frequently worn in past outfit posts. Here's me with Scott, my partner who made it the dress.
Anyway, I hope you have fun watching it and you're off to a cool week.
Stumbled across Monica Menez's rad, perverse, funny fashion videos and couldn't wait to show you guys! This is not my favorite one, but the other one is a triggering so I thought this one would be better. Her other two on her Vimeo are fantastic though, do check it out. These photos are from her portfolio, and go in hand with the video above.
StyleLikeU visited my home awhile ago, here is the result. There are more pictures and captions and things on the site - it was a pleasure having them over and talking about things I don't usually get to. Thank you for visiting. :)
No outfit post today, just a video I did because I wanted to do a video and someone suggested I do one on self confidence. So here it is! Oh, if you didn't know, I have pink hair at the moment because I'm trying to go blonde enough to go green but it's not working very well. Ah well.
Ok I don't have much else to say hahaha I'm going to go watch Snow White & The Huntsman and deal with my crush on Kristin Stewart luvz ya bye
A couple of months ago (TIME FLIES MAN) I am Rutgers approached me to do a video piece on me and another fashion blogger who goes to RU. The results are unintentionally hysterical because it just displays how completely different Melanie and I are! Seriously night and day but we both found our places in the community Rutgers provides. Have a watch and laugh hysterically at the contrast with me.
I got an email the other day from the designer Scott Park dropping a note on his new collection and how it might interest me. Well, he was right, his collection is pretty amazing and right on point with how I'm feeling right now. Also, HE has purple air which obviously means we are pretty much spiritually twins.
Anyway, his collection is pretty excellent. Witch dreamy vibes with a dash of royal luxury and off kilter-witchery. Just the thing I'm into right now. Have a look, it's totally worth it.

More photos and my short and simple interview with Scott after the jump.
Good vibes rollercoaster! It's like when I'm having an amazing week my best friends have terrible ones. I don't get it. It's hard struggling to keep everyone on the same level of contentment. Is that a word? Contentment? Contentedness? Kanyeshrug.
In any case my Thanksgiving break couldn't come sooner! I love my schoolwork but I could def use a break so I can catch up with non-college friends and get a break from this environment. Also, I prefer blogging at home and I have sooo much to show you guys. I always say that, don't I? Anyway. Here are pictures that have inspired me lately, in no particular order. I don't have credit for all of them (unfortunately) but their original sources can be found on my tumblr.
Lately when I look at photoshoots -- and I don't do that as often anymore, mostly because I am not particularly inspired by any photoshoots I've seen recently -- the model casting often incites more thought for me than the actual clothes. I wonder more and more what a look usually worn by a very skinny white girl would look like on a super curvy hispanic or black or asian girl. This isn't a new question by any means but it still remains to be seen in magazines, and I don't think it will be answered anytime soon in a non-gimmicky way. You know, something that lasts more than one issue of a magazine, a movement that lasts more than one season.
For sure, VOGUE recently had that asian photoshoot, and also Terry Richardson (gag) did that photoshoot of Proenza on one plus sized and one 'regular' sized model, but if I have to count on my hands the time the fashion industry has played with the 'body barrier' then obviously it hasn't done a very progressive job breaking it. But then again, it's not really a top priority, is it. Fashion apparently just looks better and more convincing on skinny people with long hair, right? That's what we're told, that is the idea we end up perpetuating a lot of the time. We're also told that what makeup to wear, when, amongst other things, but of course if you wear too MUCH makeup then you are trying too hard and you're slutty and your pictures are handed out by the self proclaimed Ugly Police.
I dunno what I'm trying to say here, really, I'm just writing out things I've been thinking for a long while now. I have no manifesto written up about how to change all of this. I'm just saying, you know, that I'm very very glad I was never into magazines when I was a little girl, because even though I love them now for the fashion aspect if I were to have looked at them when I was like six or seven and thought everything they told me was right I would be a much different person now, I think. I don't think I'd have end up liking me as I am as much.
Anyway, that kind of talk is for another (longer, more thought out) blog post in the future. Or the zine I am making! Or both! Probably both. Until then, here is a wonderful video that is relevant to my life and probably yours. Lovelovelove! I hope you are happy and inspired and well. Belle.
Heyheyhey! If you've been a reader of FP for long (and bless you, /I/ don't even read my blog anymore, how do you people still REMEMBER ME????) you know I am love to bombard you with my terrible (read: awesome) dance moves. It has been awhile since I've done so, and Aldo and Elizabeth agree, which was why I happily danced with my some of my fav blog ladies for a video. Ch-ch-ch-check it out.
I am so bad. Get on my level.
No, seriously, you should dance for the contest Aldo is running though. You will get shoes if you win? Also, an internet fame-ish prize? Which we all know is what really matters in life!!!
I am feeling very inspired lately. Good vibes to wrap up the year. Love love joy and love and knowledge and all that jazz. Feeling good and lookin swell. Thats what it's all about. and I have so much I need to blog about!!! I've gotten a bunch of awesome stuff recently that have totally made me happy in my own skin again. It's been awhile since I've been inspired. So yay! *spirit fingers*
Randomness: we're doing jewelry pendant in art class and my teacher thought my tribute to the mcqueen shoe was too fugly. D:< I'm doing it anyway. I'm making a unicorn, technically, but I'm going to make it wear the mcqueen shoes. Compromise is awesome!!!1
Vintage blazer, Goodwill shirt, Marshalls blouse as a skirt, vintage belt, Sock Drawer Opaque Floral Tights, Necklace from Wendy (<3)
Today sucked, cotton candy outfit did not particularly help. It is ok though, because I have Jew's deadpan antics and Tavi's text message advice.
For you! Me looking like a pirate complete with parrot was completely unintentional. Also, I could say Abigail and I aren't such douche-bags in real life..
but then I'd be lying.
p.s Caro from LA. Vintage chose me as her first blogger interview! I'm honored, hot stuff. Go check it out.
1st Top: Silk blouse, vintage 2nd Top: Three Stooges Shirt, Another Man's Treasure Vintage Sequin Jacket: LYD vintage MC Hammer Pants: Vintage handmedown Sneakers: Foot Locker Accessories: Gift, Thrift, Vintage
Also... I thought people might want to point and laugh. I've already done so at myself for about an hour, so wooooo!
Mmmm I love being awkward in front of thousands of people. My asian smile = charming you forever, I know.
Today I dressed like this out of spite of trends. This outfit has pretty much everything I like: absurdity, loud colors, obnoxiousness, hammer pants, and shiny. Lots of shiny. I've been dressing in all black, drapey, deconstructured and lace this week so it was a welcome change. Also, I'm getting these glasses with a prescription soon (my current pair fail at everything) so yes. Preview time?
Also, Jaime: I DANCED FOR YOU. GIVE ME YOUR I.D DAMN YOU!
Well technically it's probably after midnight when I post this but who's counting?
*Clarification: for some stores, you pay for the location and the overall look of the store, if you buy in Soho rather than some hole in the wall, even for the same product you'll probably pay more. Here, the location is pretty good considering the transportation and the prices are really cheap considering the quality and the store's appearance.
Also, I sound like a caffeinated squirrel.
Now, my outfit. It was so amusing to play with the length and strings on the cape, seriously best $1.40 I ever spent. My program thinks I'm emo and antisocial anyway so I wore this not only because I like the cape but out of spite. They're just jealous they can't blend into the ~shadows.
Example of me blending into the shadows. I know, I'm so invisible.
Surfinn~ surfing U.S.A ~
I went to G-ma's again today (the walls look suitably Pepto Bismol, they're really outdoing themselves).
The jacket is really, REALLY odd, it's not tight fitting so it kind of bellows out, but it's just so wrong I like it. I haven't a clue what I'll wear it with, maybe the leather top I bought with it. All I need are leather and sheer paneled pants and I can look like a hooker / backup dancer for disco videos.
As for the publication dramas...
Imagine my feet going up the ass of every negative commenter concerning Winona and Tavi. Yes, my white frilley laced feet. Remember guys, for every person that's jealous you've got 50 people loving what you're doing. When you think about it, really, there's no such thing as bad press, right? (By the way, Tavi, my best friend wants to eat you. Not that that's weird or anything.)
WARNING: EXTREMELY BOREDTEENAGER WITH NO SCRIPT. I got bored after I got home and I found my piggy bank. I didn't edit the video so it is not at it's true "WAT" potential. I kind of lost my marbles in the last 10 seconds so you'd best ignore that.
A better woman than I would not post this video, because of something called dignity and self-preservation. I lack both so it's no problem. In before the definition of prenuptial, I know what it is. >_>
I'm lame and I have nothing in particular to write about today other than I'M TEENVOGUE GIRL OF THE WEEK and I FOUND A NEW THRIFT STORE. Chhhhkayeah. Look, a TV'r.... man I hate puns.
Anyway, the new thrift is kind of a hellhole and extremely tiny but I don't care, it's new and it's named "G-Ma's Thrift Storeplace" and how can that be wrong. I can imagine so many shady things happening in the back of G-ma's. Like... illegal poker with old ladies (using vintage brooches as coins) and smoking lavender. I'll be visiting it tommorow for a thorough examination and conversation with G-ma herself, because she has a a Jewfro and John Lennon glasses and I seriously cannot resist that.
Also, here are my favorite pictures of the moment. You can click on them to be directed to their flickr.
I really enjoy this person's work in particular.
So those are today's pictures. I have a neverending love for gloomy, it's obvious.
Also, Disney Roller Girl has a great post on NEW trends, check it out. And for the super amazing awesome Amerley, HI! You made my day.
I've been getting a few emails from people wanting to know more about me so to make my life and yours a little bit easier I'll just do a Q&A post: ask and you shall be answered.
